National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wa has called on President William Ruto to reject opposition leader Raila Odinga’s alleged attempt to join the government through what he described as a “backdoor scheme.”
Speaking in Meru county, the Kikuyu MP warned that the opposition is plotting to use the bipartisan talks to find a way to share power, a move he believes is not supported by the majority of Kenyan voters who elected President Ruto.
According to Ichung’wa, the President has been given a clear mandate by the people of Kenya to focus on spurring economic recovery, creating jobs, and improving the livelihoods of citizens. He stressed that the sword that former President Uhuru Kenyatta handed over to Ruto during the handover of power was meant to transform the country’s economy, not to share power by way of a handshake government.
The MP stated that Ruto has given express orders to the dialogue team to proceed with talks with representatives of Azimio la Umoja, but only within the confines of the law. Ichung’wa added that the talks will be aimed at creating an enabling environment for the President to uplift the lives of Kenyans, and not to form a handshake government.
The MP emphasized that the discussions will proceed within the framework of the law and the constitution. He called on all parties involved to abide by the law and respect the constitution in their negotiations.
