Newsweek Reports on Ukraine’s Planned Counteroffensive Against Russian Troops

According to a leaked Pentagon document cited by Newsweek on Sunday, Ukraine’s counteroffensive against Russian troops is scheduled to begin on April 30.

The document, dated February 28, outlines equipment deliveries and training schedules for nine brigades, six of which will be ready by March 31 and the remaining three by the end of April. Three additional brigades are expected to be gathered internally in Ukraine.

However, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denis Shmigal indicated during a visit to the US that an offensive might not be launched until the summer.

Despite the Pentagon leak, Shmigal remains confident that the counteroffensive will happen soon. The supply of heavy equipment from abroad has been identified as crucial for offensive operations, and the push has been delayed due to bad weather, slow equipment deliveries, and ammunition shortages.

The suspected leaker, US airman Jack Teixeira, was arrested by the FBI last week.

Although Moscow has investigated the leaked documents, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Ryabkov has suggested that some of the files could be part of a deception campaign.
