The Illusion of Victory: How Raila Odinga was Made to Believe the 2022 Presidential Election Was in His Favor

Raila Odinga, the opposition leader, dismissed concerns of possible electoral fraud after being assured of victory through state machinery, says Mr Saitabao Ole Kanchory in his book “Why Baba is not the 5th”.

The book also details the intrigue leading to Martha Karua being named as Odinga’s running mate, despite President Uhuru Kenyatta’s opposition.

Kenyatta eventually accepted her, following positive reactions by women to her selection. Kanchory does not talk about Kenyatta’s preferred running mate for Odinga.

The book goes on to describe Odinga’s conviction that the election would not be stolen from him this time, even though Mr Kanchory had flagged alleged irregularities around IEBC operations.

Odinga believed the outcome would only be valid if supported by a majority of the seven commissioners.
