Ruaka town surpasses Mombasa in drug consumption, says Kimani Ichung’wa

During a multi-sectoral conference on ending illicit brew in Central Kenya chaired by Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah claimed that Ruaka town in Kiambu County has surpassed Mombasa in terms of hard drug consumption.

Ichung’wah accused foreign residents, particularly those from Western Africa, of introducing drugs into the town, even involving innocent youth and mothers with babies in their trade.

Kiambu County’s proximity to the city makes its drug abuse problem an urgent matter. Kiambu ranks top in potable spirit consumption at 4.1% according to a NACADA report, followed by Coast with 3.2%, Rift Valley at 3.1%, and Nairobi at 2.9%.
