Lessons From the Past: How Previous Presidents Fixed ‘the Raila Problem’

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has found himself in yet another political battle with President William Ruto, much like he did with three other heads of state in the past. These duels led to historical lessons as the country’s focus remained on anticipated negotiations.

The current administration has extended an olive branch, but the two sides have disagreed on the format of negotiations, with accusations flying back and forth.

In the past, some previous administrations co-opted Mr. Odinga into their plans to manage their successions.

For the current truce to occur, it cannot be ruled out that there could be a condition that Mr. Odinga backs Dr. Ruto’s re-election.

Issues being advanced by Mr. Odinga remain the same and touch on good governance and the well-being of the common person.

However, Mr. Owen Baya, the Deputy Majority Leader in the National Assembly, says Dr. Ruto will not entertain Mr. Odinga’s personal interests.
