Even though Uhuru Kenyatta will step down, the Kikuyu elders have high hopes for whoever the court declares the winner of the last election. However, it is unclear how the Mt. Kenya region will react if Mr. Odinga wins. Before their preferred presidential candidate sought legal intervention, the Kikuyu elders, led by Kiago, had already admitted defeat.
Wachira Kiago, chairman of the Kikuyu Council of Elders, claims that if Raila wins, the council will be unaffected. Despite the divisions that emerged during the presidential campaigns, Kiago emphasized the importance of the region remaining united in his statements. He asked the court to reconsider the case or to support Odinga.
“In that case, capable leadership will unite our people, which is what we hoped for from Mr. Odinga’s presidency.” We would have the luxury of sharing government ownership if President Kenyatta remained in power and had access to the next president, he said.
