Farah Maalim, vice-leader of the Wiper party, has claimed that powerful members of Raila Odinga’s failed presidential bid are to blame. In an interview broadcast on K24 TV on Tuesday, August 23, the newly elected member of parliament for Dadaab stated that the candidates chose to campaign with Raila and his running mate, Martha Karua, at the national level rather than traveling to different regions of the country to rally support for the Azimio leaders.
The Wiper leader claims that if the politicians had assisted the Azimio leader in getting his message out to the people, he would have won easily. Maalim goes on to explain that many coalition lawmakers choose to back their agents in order to protect their vote. In his explanation, he emphasized the importance of agents in preventing political electoral fraud.
Some Raila-led faction insiders blamed the IEBC for their side’s defeat, while other leaders pointed to inefficient agent deployment across the country (IEBC).
