Philip Kisia, a governance leadership and management expert, explains why outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta has remained silent following William Ruto’s victory in the August 9th general elections. According to the expert, Uhuru Kenyatta’s feelings at this time are extremely sensitive to the public.
“He (Uhuru Kenyatta) is an outgoing president, and his words at this time can either build or destroy this country.” Kisia stated.
Kisia says the Constitution creates a transition team when a ruling president hands over power to the President-elect during a live television interview with TV47.
“The Constitution calls for the formation of a transitional team. Whatever executive powers the President possessed are thus transferred to this transition team from his administration to the new administration.” Kisia elaborates.
“As a result, any communication from the time Hon. William Ruto was announced as President-elect by Chebukati, the transition team took over.”
According to the expert, the outgoing president has acted consistently. Even if he could vote in the August elections because the constitution allows it.
“So I believe President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta has acted steadily. He is free to have his own preferences. He has a constitutional right to do so.” Kisia finished.
On Monday, August 15th, Hon. William Ruto was declared the winner of the August general elections as President-elect elect. Wafula Chebukati, chairman of Kenya’s electoral commission, made the announcement in Bomas.
