The decision by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission chair Wafula Chebukati to declare Deputy President William Ruto as the president-elect has elicited mixed reactions across the political spectrum, as it came at a time when the commission was divided.
During the announcement, four IEBC commissioners expressed their dissatisfaction with the results, claiming that they were not involved in the final tally.
Lawyer David Matsanga told TV 47 on Thursday morning that Chebukati failed to follow Maina Kiai’s case, in which the court ruled that all commission results must be displayed to the public before the winner is announced.
According to Matsanga’s claims, Chebukati did not announce the results of the 38 constituencies, which is why key media outlets that were running a parallel tally did not finish their tallying.
