Francis Atwoli, the secretary general of the Central Organization of Trade Unions (Cotu), has denied reports that he is resigning.
According to Atwoli’s statement, the meeting he arranged for this past Wednesday was to plan the funeral for a deceased Cotu family member.
Claims that it was in preparation for his departure from the organization were categorically denied, and he confirmed that this is his final term as Cotu president.
“This is a particularly difficult time for us because Isiah Kubai, the GS of BIFU, died. Because the funeral is this Friday in Meru, we’ve scheduled a meeting to organize a fundraising effort. You, Itumbi, should stop spreading lies and instead join us because you are from those factions “I’m quoting Atwoli.
“It is worth noting that the Atwoli have no say in COTU (K) leadership matters, which are governed by the COTU (K) constitution. I am currently in the final year of my presidency.”
Atwoli called the meeting to resign from the union in response to allegations made by Digital strategist Dennis Itumbi.
The members of the emergency meeting called by Itumbi, according to Itumbi, rejected Atwoli’s attempt to install a successor as Cotu SG.
