The government speaks out after removing security from Dp William Ruto’s residence.

Deputy President William Ruto protested the removal of GSU officers from his Karen residence and their replacement with officers from the Administration Police’s Security of Government Buildings Unit.

According to David Mugonyi, Dp Ruto was not notified about the abrupt changes made by the police service of withdrawing General Service Unit security guards on Dp’s residence in Karen and Sugoi homes. The GSU security guards were withdrawn against the backdrop of rising tensions between the President and his deputy, with the former accusing the latter of undermining the country’s unity drive.

According to a video obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, over 100 youth, many of whom were boda boda operators, were seen lining up at his Elgon View residence to provide extra security, while other villagers were said to be heading to his rural home in Sugoi for a similar operation.

However, in the aftermath of the incident, the government, through police spokesperson Bruno Shiosho, has now broken the silence on the reason for the withdrawal. Shiosho stated that reassigning duties within the police service department was standard procedure.

“The replacement of DP Ruto’s GSU security team by Administration Police officers is a normal reassignment of duties within the police officers, and there is no major reason for it,” Shiosho explained. He went on to say that changes in routine are common in the police force. He also stated that dp Ruto’s security will be enhanced and he will be given maximum protection.

Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja, on the other hand, has condemned the act and blamed it on the government for the security guards’ withdrawal. Sakaja has also asked Interior Security Chief Fred Matiang’i and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to resign and enter politics.

According to Sakaja, by withdrawing GSU from Ruto’s residence, these public officials have flagrantly violated the constitution. Other leaders have also blamed the government for the incident, warning that if anything bad happens to Deputy President William Ruto, the government will be held accountable.
