Ngilu Charges William Ruto with Promoting Poverty Politics: “His Language Is Handouts”
Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu has claimed that Deputy President William Ruto was forced to choose Mathira MP Rigathi Gachagua as his running mate in the August 9 elections.
Ngilu stated on social media accounts, while posting Rigathi Gachagua’s video, that nobody in his right mind would have chosen Rigathi as his deputy.
According to Ngilu, Ruto loses votes every time Rigathi Gachagua speaks out in support of him.
“There is no way @WilliamsRuto chose the DO as his running mate of his own volition; he must have been held hostage in some way. Otherwise, how can anyone justify a candidate who loses votes every time he opens his mouth to speak? Disastrous,” Ngilu’s post should be read.
Rigathi can be heard in the video shared by Ngilu sensationally dismissing Ukambani votes, claiming they have no impact. He claims that the three Ukambani counties have only 1.5 million votes, which will be insignificant in the next general election.
“Let’s face it, the total number of votes cast in Machakos, Kitui, and Makueni amounts to 1.5 million; is there anywhere 1.5 million votes can take you?” Rigathi said in the contentious video.
The same video elicited a reaction from MP Robert Mbui during a Citizen Tv interview on Monday morning. Mbui warned that Rigathi’s remarks could cost Ruto a lot of money in the region because Ukambani residents will not take them lightly.
