Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki has been nominated to be Deputy President William Ruto’s running mate in the August general elections.
On Wednesday in Thika Kiambu county, a group of Mt Kenya leaders urged UDA leadership to consider selecting a candidate from Mt Kenya East, particularly the vote-rich Tharaka Nithi county.
According to them, Tharaka Nithi Senator Kithure Kindiki has demonstrated that he is qualified for the position and that his nomination will be a sure bet for the wheelbarrow and the Kenya Kwanza alliance.
“All the time in the Mt Kenya region, we look forward to Tharaka Nithi votes arriving; we now want you to appreciate that Tharaka Nithi polling center by and nominate Kindiki Kithure as the next Deputy President,” one leader said.
“I can see Professor Kindiki being Ruto’s deputy in August. As Mt Kenya leaders, let us all urge our people to come out and ensure that the huge votes we have been getting from Tharaka Nithi are paid for and that is by nominating Kindiki as Ruto’s running mate” added another leader
The leaders urged the clergy and all residents to pray for Kindiki, claiming that he is a gentle man who will not forget them if nominated.
This comes at a time when the search for William Ruto’s deputy has been narrowed down to three leaders from the Mt Kenya region.
Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi, MP Rigathi Gachagua, and Senator Kithure Kindiki are among the frontrunners. On Tuesday, the three met with DP William Ruto in Karen, Nairobi.
