The ordeal faced by Erica Muiruri and Shanice Agose serves as a chilling reminder of the pervasive dangers that exist in society.

Their courageous survival and subsequent rescue demonstrate the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating crime and protecting citizens. As the young women begin the process of recovery, their harrowing experience will undoubtedly leave an indelible mark on their lives, forever reminding them of the strength and resilience they possess.

Erica Muiruri, the daughter of well-known media personality Ciku Muiruri, and her friend Shanice Agose experienced a harrowing ordeal that lasted for eight agonizing days. The young women were kidnapped on a fateful night in Westlands, Nairobi, by a treacherous taxi driver. However, their traumatic journey came to an end when they were finally rescued on a Sunday evening in Thika.

DCI (Directorate of Criminal Investigations) detectives from Thika West bravely stormed into a one-room house located in Mang’u, Gatundu North Constituency, where Erica and Shanice were being held captive.

The room was dimly lit, and the victims were found in a visibly weakened and shaken state. The brave rescue operation led to the apprehension of two suspects, identified as Timothy Kiragu Ng’ang’a (34) and Samuel Kipkurui (33), who were swiftly arrested at Ngoigwa area in Thika.

During the rescue operation, Erica Njeri’s phone was discovered wrapped in foil paper, a desperate attempt by the kidnappers to conceal evidence.

After their liberation, Erica and Shanice were interviewed by the detectives, providing crucial information that led them to another location in Mang’u Gatukuyu area, where the victims had been held captive in a rented single room.

The police report stated that although the victims were successfully rescued alive, they displayed visible signs of physical and emotional trauma. It was evident that they had endured a distressing ordeal at the hands of their captors.

Throughout their captivity, the kidnappers had demanded a hefty ransom of Ksh.250,000 from the parents of both young women. The victims’ only sustenance during this period had been limited to mandazi (a type of fried bread) and water.

The joyful news of Erica and Shanice’s rescue spread like wildfire, bringing immense relief to their worried parents. The reunion between the young women and their families was a deeply emotional moment, filled with tears of joy and gratitude.

However, the trauma they had endured necessitated immediate medical attention. Consequently, Erica and Shanice were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for thorough medical check-ups and care.

In the wake of the kidnapping, Ciku Muiruri, Erica’s mother, had taken to social media to share the horrifying details of her daughter’s abduction. In a heartfelt Facebook post, she had pleaded with the public for help, seeking their assistance in locating Erica and Shanice.

However, she had not yet updated her online community regarding the successful rescue of her child and her friend.
