Ruto Announces Further Drop in Maize Flour Prices

  • IN BRIEF: President William Ruto has assured Kenyans that his government is working tirelessly to ensure that every Kenyan can afford to feed their families. He has promised to decrease the price of maize flour further and encouraged Kenyans to focus on farming, which he believes is the best way to improve their lives in the long-term. The president has criticized the opposition Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition faction for their anti-government protests and urged Kenyans to avoid such calls, stating that they would not help to lower the cost of living.

President William Ruto announced on Saturday in Meru County that the prices of maize flour in Kenya would decrease even further from the following week. He assured Kenyans that his government is committed to providing cheap maize flour to its citizens while simultaneously tackling poverty and hunger.

President Ruto emphasized that despite taking office when the price of maize flour was at Ksh.230, his government has managed to lower it to Ksh.170 and aims to drop it even further to Ksh.150 or less. He added that the administration is working hard to ensure every Kenyan can afford to feed their family and eradicate hunger in the nation.

President Ruto thanked Kenyan farmers for their hard work, highlighting that the government had provided them with seeds. The government has distributed around four million bags of seeds in different parts of the country. He expressed his joy that the journey to reducing the cost of living and food prices had begun, and Kenyans would witness a significant difference in prices shortly.

The Head of State criticized the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition faction opposition for their anti-government protests, stating that the demonstrations would not assist in lowering the cost of living.

He urged Kenyans to abandon calls to take to the streets, encouraging them instead to focus on farming. He emphasized that farming is the only way through which Kenyans could improve their lives in the long-term.

President Ruto promised Kenyans that his government would stand with them, especially the farmers, to ensure that they could produce enough food. He added that the only way to change Kenya and ensure food availability is to take seeds and fertilizer and head to their farms to produce crops instead of protesting on the streets.
