Moses Wetangula declares vacancy in Banissa constituency

The Banissa constituency is now up for grabs after the National Assembly’s Moses Wetangula declared a vacancy in the seat following the death of Kullow Maalim Hassan, who was elected on a UDM party ticket during the August 9, 2022, general election.

Hassan passed away on March 29 while receiving treatment in a city hospital. The Speaker is required to issue writs that declare a constituency vacancy within 21 days of its occurrence, according to the constitution.

This allows the electoral commission to conduct a by-election in the area within 90 days.
