Joho Back After Absence for Health Reasons, Expresses Frustration Over Coastal Region’s Failure to Join Azimio Protests

After months of absence and silence since Raila Odinga’s presidential petition was dismissed by the Supreme Court, the self-proclaimed coastal kingpin, Hassan Joho, has reappeared. Joho, who is the deputy party leader of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), had been out of the country due to health reasons.

He had not attended any of Raila’s rallies, protests or meetings. During the Eid Fitr celebrations in Mombasa, Joho revealed that he supports Raila’s push for demonstrations to address the high cost of living.

Joho expressed frustration that some parts of the coastal region had not participated in the protests.

During the Azimio mass action, all six Coast counties remained relatively calm, which surprised many, considering the area has been a stronghold for Raila during general elections.

The Azimio leaders from the Coast, who participated in the Nairobi demonstrations, were arrested while picketing in Nairobi.
