Retired President Uhuru Kenyatta and Wiper’s Kalonzo Musyoka have expressed regret for their absence from the Murang’a town hall meeting. During his address to the residents of Muranga, Raila relayed their regards and affirmed their support for the coalition’s objectives.
“I have greetings from Uhuru and Kalonzo, they couldn’t make it here today,” he conveyed.
This is not the first time that Uhuru has missed an Azimio event. On April 6, he also sent an apology for not attending the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition Parliamentary Group meeting that took place at Stoni Athi in Machakos County. Raila conveyed Uhuru’s regrets to the delegates who were eagerly waiting.
“I bring apologies from our chairman Uhuru Kenyatta, he wanted to come but he was unable, but he said he will support whatever resolution we will make today,” Raila stated.
The latest apology was prompted by the results of a TIFA poll, which revealed that a majority of Kenyans believe Uhuru should retire from politics and enjoy his retirement. Of those polled, 59% believe he should step down from politics altogether and focus on his family businesses if he wishes.
“The survey indicated that 70% of Kenya Kwanza supporters want Uhuru to retire from politics, compared to 26% of the supporters,” the poll stated.
