On Wednesday, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) handed over the file of the investigation into the death of Jeffrey Mwathi to the DPP’s office for further action. The file contains inconclusive evidence, with a possible suicide as the most plausible explanation for Mwathi’s death.
Despite questioning several suspects who were present at the scene, detectives found no forensic evidence to support a murder theory.
CCTV footage showed that after a night of partying, a group of six people, including Mwathi, returned to the DJ’s apartment, where Mwathi eventually became intoxicated and was taken to a nearby room to recover.
Later, the DJ and two women left the apartment, while two men stayed behind. The CCTV captured Mwathi’s body falling off the 10th floor of the apartment block while the two men were still in the lift on their way to the parking lot.
The investigators were unable to establish a forensic link between the two men and Mwathi’s death. The evidence also showed that the DJ returned home after dropping off the women and conversed with a neighbor before entering the apartment.
He expressed a fear of dead bodies and things associated with death when told that someone had fallen off the building.
