Zoo Intruder Startles Rhinos and Antelopes with Leisurely Bath in Moat

On Wednesday, a man was arrested at Auckland Zoo in New Zealand after breaking into an enclosure and taking a bath in a moat beside rhinos and antelopes, startling the animals.

Social media footage showed the man floating on his back, washing his face, and rinsing his hair in the enclosure, which is home to rhinos and nyalas, a type of spiral-horned antelope.

After being in the water for several minutes, zoo staff instructed him to get out and return to the visitor’s path, and he was escorted off the premises and handed over to the police.

Zoo director Kevin Buley expressed his relief that no animals or visitors were harmed during the incident, adding that he hoped the man would receive the assistance and support he needed.
