The investigation into the death of interior designer Jeff Mwathi has concluded, and the case file has been forwarded to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for directions.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) confirmed this on Twitter, stating that a fresh probe was launched following new evidence provided by the government pathologist and chemist after a repeat autopsy.
Mwathi, 23, died on February 22, 2023, in unclear circumstances, with initial reports citing suicide.
However, his family disputed the findings, prompting the Interior CS to order homicide detectives from the DCI to take over the case. A fresh autopsy was conducted on March 31 after police sought orders for the exhumation.
Detectives working on the case discounted the suicide theory, stating that Jeff was murdered before his body was thrown off the apartment’s rooftop.
Mugithi musician Lawrence Njuguna, who admitted that Jeff was in his house on the day he died, is a person of interest, and all five persons who were at DJ Fatxo’s house when the incident happened were questioned.
Additionally, the police officers who handled the case initially were also questioned. Fatxo has since denied involvement in Jeff’s death and pledged to cooperate with investigators.
