President William Ruto has appealed for an end to the ongoing conflict in Sudan that has resulted in the loss of many lives, destruction of property and displacement of civilians.
He urged the two parties, the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan Armed Forces (SAF), to declare a ceasefire and find an amicable solution to their differences.
President Ruto expressed his concern at the use of lethal weapons by both parties that have caused extensive damage to property, including public infrastructure like roads, bridges, and airports.
He also highlighted the targeting of members of the diplomatic community and the general civilian population caught in the crossfire.
President Ruto called for compliance with the resolution of the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development (Igad) Heads of State Summit held on Sunday, which called for the immediate cessation of hostilities and unrestricted humanitarian access.
He emphasized that the fulfillment of these commitments and cooperation by both parties would be critical to the resumption and conclusion of negotiations on the Political Framework Agreement.
