Police officers raided the Gakoromone Market in Marikiti, Meru County on Tuesday evening and shot dead one robbery suspect while another sustained injuries from gunshots. The suspects were reportedly part of a five-man gang that was robbing stores in the market.
The pair was shot while attempting to flee, and the rest of the gang members are still at large.
During the incident, detectives recovered the stolen money and various other items, including mobile phones and identity cards.
Gakoromone Assistant Chief Brian Mwenda praised the quick reporting of the robbery by residents, allowing the authorities to intervene.
The deceased suspect’s body was taken to the Meru Level 5 Hospital Mortuary, while his injured accomplice is receiving treatment in the same hospital.
The regional police commander has refused to comment on the matter, while investigations continue.
