National Assembly to Grill CSs Murkomen, Tuya on Transport and Environment Issues

On Wednesday afternoon, the Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and his counterpart in the Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Ministry, Soipan Tuya, are scheduled to appear before the National Assembly to address questions from members.

CS Tuya will be the first to appear and will respond to queries from Elgeyo Marakwet MP Caroline Ng’elechei and Mandera South MP Abdul Haro.

MP Ng’elechei will seek clarification from CS Tuya on various issues, including the rationale behind the ban on maize cultivation in PELIS areas, the reduction in forest cover in Elgeyo Marakwet County, and the pros and cons of maize cultivation under PELIS.

MP Haro will seek information on recent heat waves in Kenya and measures taken by the Ministry to mitigate their impact. CS Tuya will also provide answers on the status of critical heatwave event records in the country.

CS Murkomen will respond to questions from nine members, including providing a status report on the use of the Nairobi Expressway and its impact on traffic congestion in the city.

He will also address the Ministry’s plans to improve the main Mombasa Road affected by the expressway’s construction, the status of stalled road projects in the country, and pending bills owed to road contractors and measures to settle them.
