A court has ruled that Embakasi East MP Paul Ongili, also known as Babu Owino, will face charges for the alleged misuse of a firearm at a Kilimani nightclub in January 2020.
Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi determined that the prosecution had presented enough evidence to support the case against the accused.
Babu Owino was charged with carrying a gun and being disorderly, having fired a bullet with the intent to shoot Felix Orinda, better known as DJ Evolve.
The trial court allowed DJ Evolve to withdraw the attempted murder charge, but the second count on firearm misuse could not be withdrawn.
Babu Owino’s defence hearing is set for June 15, 2023. Despite being released on bail, the MP has been prohibited from consuming alcohol or narcotics in public, as well as commenting on the case in any public forum.
In December 2021, the MP was acquitted of the attempted murder charge and was required to pay medical bills and nursing care costs of up to Sh6.9 million.
The MP also agreed to provide financial support to DJ Evolve and establish a music academy for him when he recovers.
