Public Accounts Committee Suspects Illicit Money Transfers in Sh15 Billion Fertiliser Subsidy Program

The National Assembly’s Public Accounts Committee has instructed the Auditor General, Nancy Gathungu, to carry out a forensic audit on the Ksh.15 billion allocated to the Ministry of Agriculture for fertilizer subsidies due to concerns of financial misappropriation.

The committee chair, John Mbadi, suspects that taxpayers may have lost millions of dollars in the program, and has urged the Auditor General to investigate whether Kenyans received value for their money.

Mbadi expressed concerns of possible money laundering and illicit money transfers in the subsidy program, and has called for an immediate audit of the funds used so far.

The committee has requested that the audit report be submitted within 30 days and will hold public hearings to gather information from senior Ministry of Agriculture officials who were responsible for the program to prevent any further scandals in the country.
