Nyali MP Mohamed Ali has filed a legal fee note claiming a sum of Sh10,049,725 from Brookside Dairy Limited, associated with the family of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
This follows Brookside’s unsuccessful bid to obtain damages from Mr Ali for business losses in a defamation case filed against him in July 2022.
Brookside had sought to gag the MP, who had alleged that the milk processing company was exploiting and financially oppressing dairy farmers. The case was struck out in October 2022, and the MP was awarded costs.
The bill filed by Mr Ali’s lawyer seeks payment for the work done in defending the MP against Brookside’s prayer for orders for gross violation of constitutional rights, conducting research, and preparing for the case, among other services rendered.
The bill is awaiting assessment by the court’s deputy registrar, and the matter is fixed for mention on April 17.
