Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio la Umoja coalition, has expressed willingness to engage in talks with the government, but lamented that the process has not been smooth.
He stated that the opposition has been willing to hold meetings with the government to address the issues facing citizens, but they have been met with contempt, hindering their efforts to air their grievances.
Odinga made these remarks while attending a church service at ACK St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Nairobi. He emphasized the need to resolve the rivalry with the government, as it is essential for streamlining matters affecting citizens.
Odinga reiterated his call for peace, emphasizing that the anti-government protests are founded on the principles of peace. He blamed the government for the death of citizens and destruction of property during protests, asserting that excessive police action is responsible for the violent aftermath.
Odinga called on the faithful to pray for the Azimio coalition and challenged the government to address the issues facing Kenyans. He vowed that the coalition would not back down until the government heeds their demands.
The Azimio coalition has threatened to return to the streets over claims that the government is not committed to holding sober talks with them in the bipartisan talks. Odinga was accompanied by several political leaders, including former Azimio Deputy Presidential candidate Martha Karua, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, and others.
