Machogu to Address Press Today Following Mukumu Girls High School Outbreak

The Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, is set to visit Mukumu Girls High School in Kakamega County today, after the school was closed due to an outbreak that left three students and one teacher dead, and hundreds hospitalized.

This is Machogu’s first visit to the school since the incident occurred. According to an invite sent to media houses, Machogu will assess the situation and address the press at 10:30 am at the Shinyalu Sub-county-located school.

Earlier, Basic Education PS Belio Kipsang and Health CS Susan Nakhumicha had visited the school. The Ministry of Health revealed that the students’ food was contaminated with fresh faeces, which may have caused the outbreak.

The Director-General for Health, Patrick Amoth, disclosed that laboratory tests for other viral diseases turned out negative, and further investigations are underway to identify any potential causes of the illness.
