DP Gachagua orders major crackdown on illicit brews and hard drugs in Central Kenya

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has issued a directive to security agencies to clamp down on the production and sale of illicit brew and hard drugs in several counties in Kenya, including Murang’a, Kiambu, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, and Nyandarua.

Gachagua emphasized the urgency of the crackdown during a high-level multisectoral consultative forum on ending the illicit brew and substance abuse in the region.

He urged officers to shut down dens where the illicit brew is produced and warned that those who fail to deliver will not be tolerated.

The crackdown aims to save the younger generation, which is at risk of being wiped out by substance abuse. Gachagua warned that officers protecting unscrupulous dealers will not be spared and that only registered dealers will be allowed to operate.

The forum culminated in the adoption of a communique that outlines a framework for collaboration among various government agencies in dealing with the menace.
