Polish Prime Minister Criticizes Macron’s push for EU Strategic Autonomy

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has strongly criticized the idea of EU strategic autonomy, arguing that it would lead to increased economic dependence on China. He also urged democracies not to engage in trade with oppressive regimes.

Morawiecki’s comments came in response to French President Emmanuel Macron’s call for greater EU independence in foreign policy, which he made during a visit to China.

Morawiecki argued that this move towards independence would undermine ties with the US and ultimately harm Europe’s geopolitical position.

He further criticized Western European politicians who support Macron’s views, accusing them of shortsightedness in seeking greater access to the Chinese market.

Morawiecki urged restricting international trade in the name of geostrategic and ideological interests, warning that outsourcing strategic industries to certain nations would strengthen potential adversaries.

He also expressed concerns about Ukraine’s future and praised Poland as a well-regulated economy and a crucial link in Washington’s trans-Atlantic policy.
