Former Chief Government Pathologist Alex Kirasi Olumbe Dies of Colon Cancer

Alex Kirasi Olumbe, the former chief government pathologist, has passed away after a battle with colon cancer, according to sources close to his family. Olumbe was appointed to the position in 1998 and was a respected figure in the field of pathology.

Born on February 4, 1963, in North Maragoli, Olumbe spent his early childhood in Nairobi’s Kaloleni estate. He earned a Diploma in medicine from the London Society of Apothecaries in 1996 and a Diploma in Forensic Medicine from the Royal College of Pathologists, Australia, in the same year. He also obtained a Bachelor of Science in Surgery and Master in Pathology from the University of Nairobi.

Olumbe’s career included serving as a medical officer at Nyeri Hospital from 1988-1989, a registrar in pathology at the University of Nairobi Medical School/Ministry of Health from 1989-1993, and a forensic pathologist for the Kenyan Ministry of Health from 1993-1998. He leaves behind his wife, Jacqueline Wills, and their three children, Mwanaisha Kagusha, Donald Washe Indeheri, and Diana Laura Eboso.
