Dr. Asha Mohammed steps down as Kenya Red Cross Society Secretary General

Dr. Asha Mohammed, the Secretary General of the Kenya Red Cross Society (KRCS), has resigned from her post due to personal reasons, according to a statement by the society’s Board Chairman Geoffrey Korir.

The role will now be temporarily filled by Deputy Secretary General Dr. Ahmed Idris. Dr. Asha will oversee a smooth transition to her successor over the next few months.

She has been Secretary General since January 2020, and previously held the positions of Deputy Secretary General and Director for Health and Social Services at KRCS.

Mr. Korir expressed the board’s appreciation for Dr. Asha’s service, passion, and commitment to the society, and thanked her for leading the KRCS through a difficult humanitarian context, including the COVID-19 pandemic and a severe drought.

He also stated that Dr. Asha will continue to be a community leader and life member of KRCS in the future.
