Zuchu, whose real name is Zuhura Othman Soud, has broken a record in Tanzania as the first female artist to achieve over one million views on YouTube within 24 hours of uploading a new song.
The song, called Sukari, was uploaded on January 30, 2021, and reached the milestone while trending at number one in Tanzania and Kenya in less than 22 hours. Zuchu expressed her appreciation to her global fans on social media for their overwhelming support since joining WCB less than a year ago.
The love song, Sukari, directed by Director Kenny under Zoom Extra, is produced by Trone and mixed and mastered by Producer Lizer Classic. Zuchu has broken the record for the female artist with the highest number of YouTube subscribers (751K) in East Africa, beating Nandy with 651K subscribers.
Since being signed to WCB in April 2020, Zuchu’s rise has been remarkable, with her EP being the most played album in Tanzania in 2020 on the BoomPlay streaming app, and her music videos garnering millions of views on YouTube.
Despite accusations of leveraging her position at WCB for her fame in Bongo Flava, Zuchu has no apologies for her success and insists that it is normal for labels to promote their artists.
