Raila Odinga announces the resumption of anti-government protests

Raila Odinga, the Azimio La Umoja Coalition Party Leader, has announced that anti-government protests that were previously called off will resume within a week. During a town hall meeting at Ufungamano House in Nairobi, Odinga stated that the date for the protests would be announced after the end of the Ramadhan season.

He emphasized that the protests will be held concurrently with bipartisan engagements with the government, insisting that the public’s interest should be prioritized. Odinga accused President William Ruto’s government of being a “rubberstamp” administration that endorses anything without considering the consequences.

Odinga reiterated that bipartisan engagement should not be limited to Parliament and referenced the 2008 National Accord, which was ratified despite taking place in a hotel. The Thursday town hall meeting was attended by Azimio leaders, including Martha Karua and Eugene Wamalwa.

The coalition recently announced that it would hold public barazas and town hall meetings countrywide after suspending anti-government protests.
