A 31-year-old man has been arrested by police in Kisumu for dangerous driving after he allegedly drove a Toyota Prado into a food joint in the Kondele area, injuring five people.
According to Nyanza Regional traffic boss Joseph Nganga, the suspect had taken his father’s car without permission from the Kibos area at 9 pm.
Nganga stated that the suspect knocked a motorcyclist and two pillion passengers at the Kondele roundabout and then drove into the eatery where people were having supper.
He added that angry boda boda operators chased the driver as he drove towards Kisumu central police station, where he hit two other vehicles on the way.
Seven people were injured in the incident and were taken to the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital for treatment before being discharged.
The suspect, who is allegedly mentally challenged, is now in custody and will be charged for relevant traffic offenses.
