According to Interior Cabinet Secretary Prof. Kithure Kindiki, the security agencies are reportedly getting closer to the suspect responsible for the death of boda boda operator association chairman Willis Kiraku Mugambi.
Mugambi was allegedly shot dead in Chuka town, Tharaka Nithi County, under unclear circumstances when the police dispersed a furious crowd that had gathered to demand the arrest of individuals believed to be behind the killing of Daniel Mutembei, a local resident.
The police are yet to identify any suspects regarding the incident, and investigations are almost complete. Kindiki told the National Assembly that if evidence linked a government official or NPS officer to the murder of Kiraku, whoever was responsible would be prosecuted, and compensation procedures would follow.
The state will also initiate compensation proceedings for Kiraku’s next of kin if investigations reveal that he was killed by a police officer.
