KVF President Waithaka Kioni Passes Away Following Brief Illness

Waithaka Kioni, the President of the Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF), has passed away after a brief illness. The news was confirmed by the federation’s Secretary-General, Ben Juma, who said that Kioni passed away on the evening of April 7th, 2023, at a Nairobi hospital.

Juma expressed his condolences to Kioni’s family and the entire volleyball fraternity, describing the late KVF President as a visionary and dedicated leader who contributed significantly to the growth of volleyball in the country.

Kioni had been the KVF President since 2017, and during his tenure, he oversaw the growth of the sport in the country. Under his leadership, the national volleyball teams had several successful outings in regional and international competitions.

In addition to his role as the KVF President, Kioni was also a member of the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB) Board of Administration and was instrumental in the development of volleyball on the continent.

Kioni’s passing has been mourned by the Kenyan sports fraternity, with many expressing shock and sadness at his sudden demise. The KVF and the CAVB have also paid tribute to the late President, hailing his contributions to the sport and his leadership qualities.
