Chuka Demos: Police Bosses Transferred Over Shooting of Boda Boda Chair

Following protests by residents of Chuka town in Tharaka Nithi County, the National Police Service has transferred two police bosses over the shooting of a boda boda chair. The chairman of the town’s boda boda operators was shot dead on Thursday, and the incident sparked protests in the town.

The officer in charge of the Chuka Police Station has been transferred to the county headquarters, while the divisional police commander has been moved to a station in Embu County.

The protests, which continued for several hours, resulted in roadblocks and the burning of tires on the Chuka-Meru road. Demonstrators called for justice for the deceased boda boda chair, accusing the police of using excessive force.

The situation in Chuka town remains tense, with increased police presence to maintain calm. The National Police Service has promised to investigate the shooting and bring the perpetrators to justice.
