Why Government Workers are Being Asked to Brace for More Public Service Payslip Delays

National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary Njuguna Ndung’u has warned that government employees may face further public service payslip delays in their salaries due to the country’s worsening economic situation.

The government is facing a financial crisis due to underperforming revenues and limited access to finance. According to the Cabinet Secretary, most of the government’s funds are going toward debt financing.

Reports indicate that government employees, including parliamentarians and their staff, have been receiving their pay after the 30th day, with some not being paid at all.

The Kenya Broadcasting Corporation and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission are among the government organizations experiencing delays in processing and disbursement of salaries.
