Anglican Church Head Reveals why he has no Regrets Over Role in 2022 Polls

Anglican Church Leader Jackson Ole Sapit was one of the religious leaders present at Bomas when the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) announced William Ruto as the president-elect on August 15, 2022.

While at the IEBC headquarters, the situation deteriorated, with shouts and objects being thrown, which made Sapit feel tense and uncomfortable. Eventually, he was called to pray, but he was still in shock and confusion as he did not know who had won the election.

Social media, along with some Kenyans, questioned his neutrality and accused him of being in bed with the ruling party, which made him a target for vitriol and hatred.

Despite the backlash, Sapit remained firm in his belief that he had done the right thing, and he had not been bought by any political force. As a clergyman, he believed that he was there to represent all Kenyans.
