Raila Backs Down From Key Demand

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has reportedly backed down from his demand for the formation of a team similar to the 2008 National Accord, which President William Ruto has opposed.

However, according to Saturday Nation, Odinga’s coalition, Azimio la Umoja One Kenya, still maintains that their demands remain, arguing that having lawmakers in the team does not limit the deliberations to Parliament.

ODM deputy party leader Wycliffe Oparanya said they also demand the role of the two principals, Ruto and Odinga, just like in the National Accord, suggesting that the two can hold parallel talks and have their deliberations forwarded to the team for action.

Meanwhile, the ruling Kenya Kwanza alliance said it would name its team during a Parliamentary Group (PG) meeting scheduled for Tuesday.
