An ill-fated lorry carrying rice to the border town of Isebania crashed in Migori after its brakes failed, resulting in the death of seven people, including the driver.
Eyewitnesses reported that the driver lost control of the vehicle on the Migori-Isebania road and alerted others to the brake failure by honking at Chamkombe area.
The lorry hit several people in the busy town, leaving three in critical condition. Two people were also knocked down at River Migori, with rescue efforts proving futile due to the river’s inaccessibility.
Witnesses interviewed by Citizen Digital blamed the Migori County government for poorly managing parking space within the town, stating that the road is narrow and requires proper structure to prevent such incidents in the future.
The Migori County Police Commander, Mark Wanjala, confirmed the accident and initiated an investigation to determine its cause.
