Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has taken on the role of a peace ambassador to help resolve the longstanding conflicts that have plagued the African Independent Pentecostal Churches of Africa (AIPCA) for 17 years.
The church is currently divided into three centers of unified power, led by Archbishops Julius Njoroge, Samson Muthuri, and Frederick Wang’ombe.
However, the three leaders have expressed optimism that with the government’s intervention through DP Gachagua, they can pursue unity and put an end to violence.
Archbishop Wang’ombe has emphasized the church’s desire for spiritual nourishment for its members in an environment of stability and prosperity.
Mr. Muthuri is the current overall leader and will be succeeded by Mr. Wang’ombe, as Mr. Njoroge has retired from leadership after his rotational year.
DP Gachagua has pledged to heal the warring factions and ensure sustainable peace among the brethren. He plans to meet with the different camps and broker an agreement witnessed by President William Ruto.
Mr. Gachagua regards the AIPCA as an integral part of Kenya Kwanza, the ruling political alliance, and describes it as a true representative of the hustlers in the country.
During the Holy Oil Salvation event, DP Gachagua announced his acceptance of the role of peace negotiator for the church. He also promised to put AIPCA faithful into government positions and pledged to protect the church.
The AIPCA hopes to regain cohesiveness in 2024 when it goes to the ballot to pick a unifying leader, and the church does not want its factions to return to conflict.
