While addressing the Supreme Court, William Ruto’s lawyer Kithure Kindiki expressed concern about the events that occurred on August 15, in Kenya’s Bomas. According to Kindiki, a mob attempted to disrupt the announcement of presidential election results. Kindiki is now wondering why no one has been summoned by security agencies.
“On August 15, 2022, a mob of people stormed the national tallying center’s dais. Several IEBC commissioners and staff were seriously injured as a result of the chaos. Nobody has been summoned to explain what happened that day, and no state agencies have conducted investigations.” According to Professor Kithure Kindiki.
Kithure Kindiki also told the Supreme Court that what happened in Kenya’s Bomas on August 15 mirrors what happened in the United States in January 2021, when former US President Donald Trump was defeated and supporters stormed Capitol Hill.
William Ruto’s lawyer has also stated that the events at the National Tallying Centre in Bomas were an attempted but failed coup.
The events at Bomas represent a failed coup attempt. Surprisingly, the mentioned public officials, including senior government officials, have not denied meeting the IEBC at the plenary. They only stated that they went there to expedite the announcement of results.” Kithure Kindiki testified before the Supreme Court.
Professor Kithure Kindiki has thus petitioned the Supreme Court to dismiss Raila Odinga’s petition, arguing, among other things, that the burden of proof in presidential petitions falls on petitioners rather than respondents.
