George Gitobu, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) official for Gichugu Constituency in Kirinyanga County who died a few days ago, has been laid to rest.
The deceased was laid to rest in his home village of Kiamiogo in Meru County’s Buuri Subcounty. Other IEBC officials attended the burial ceremony to express their final condolences to the deceased’s family. The officials lamented the numerous deaths of IEBC officials in this year’s elections and previous general elections.
They have now urged the appropriate authorities to investigate the deaths and determine what happened. Mr Gitobu was one of two IEBC officials killed in this year’s elections. He allegedly collapsed and died in broad daylight a few days after the general election ended.
He was rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy revealed that he died as a result of a blood clot in his right artery. Daniel Musyoka, another IEBC official who died during the election period, was killed by unknown people. May they find peace.
