Matiangi Addresses The Elections And Declares Monday A Public Holiday

Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiangi has declared Monday, August 29th, as a public holiday in Mombasa and Kakamega counties, as well as other areas where elections are scheduled to take place on Monday.

Matiangi has also requested that employees release their employers on that day so that they can exercise their democratic rights. He clarified that the constitution forbids anyone from interfering with citizens’ right to vote.

The Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission postponed the elections in these areas after some cases arose, including intimidation of commission officials.

Matiangi was speaking to the press for the first time since the general election on August 9th.

Matiangi also urged Kenyans to remain calm and peaceful in order to ensure the country’s continued stability.
