Expert Lauds IEBC for Handling Failed KIEMS Kits, Predicts Uphill Battle for Azimio in Court

Kevin Osido, a political and governance expert, has praised the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, IEBC, for handling the failure of KIEMS kits and incorporating manual registers during the August 9th general elections.

The manual registers were used in several polling stations, and according to Osido, the commission did their due diligence in scrutinizing the voters before allowing them to vote, a move he claims gave the election process transparency.

With the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Alliance team expected to file a petition at the Supreme Court today, Monday August 22nd, in an attempt to overturn Deputy President William Ruto’s presidential victory, a number of the alliance’s members have questioned how the manual registers were used when the electronic registers failed.

Some Azimio team leaders have argued that the failure of the electronic devices could have influenced the results, comments that Osido says will compel the Azimio legal team to provide proof at the apex court, claiming that it will be a difficult task for them.

“This time, we have to give it to IEBC because of how they handled the failed KIEMS kits. I saw people being thoroughly examined, including young men and elderly grandmothers whose hands could not be captured by the kits.”

“We saw voters who were allowed to use the manual registers having their photos taken along with their IDs and transmitted to the KIEMS. The IEBC attempted to build on the mistakes of 2013 and 2017, and it is now up to Azimio to generate proper evidence that would warrant a win in that petition “Osido stated.

Azimio’s team has stated that they have sufficient evidence to show that the presidential vote count was marred by several irregularities that could have influenced the outcome.
