What Uhuru Kenyatta Told Election Observers at the State House

President Uhuru Kenyatta met with a team of AU/COMESA election monitors at State House on Saturday, August 13, who briefed him on the ongoing election process.

Former Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma’s team told Kenyatta that the process was open and transparent.

They went on to say that all observers had given positive feedback based on events leading up to and following the August 9 elections.

President Uhuru, for his part, stated that the country was worried as a result of the presidential election results, dismissing any claims of public fear.

“The only worry I’ve seen is one of anticipation, not fear,” Kenyatta said.

The president also praised the Kenya Election Observer Mission, saying that the campaign and voting periods were both peaceful and orderly.

As a result, he claims, ethnic tensions have subsided and people are more focused on issue-based politics.

According to the observer’s report, Kenya has demonstrated true democracy, institutional legitimacy, and adherence to the rule of law.

Kenyan residents and the president were also praised for running peaceful and inclusive campaigns.

In their brief to President Kenyatta, the team emphasized that the electoral system and institutions followed the law and international best practices.
