Huge setback for Ruto and Gachagua as a case seeking to prevent their sworn testimony is filed in the Supreme Court.

Eleven petitioners have petitioned the Supreme Court to prevent Deputy President William Ruto and his running mate Rigathi Gachagua from being sworn in if they win the Presidential election on Tuesday.

The petitioners want Ruto and his running mate barred from ascending to power if the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) declares them victorious due to integrity issues, according to a certificate of urgency.

They want the Supreme Court to rule by Friday, August 26.

While defending their decision to file the case, the eleven petitioners argued that the court’s failure to issue an order barring Ruto and Gachagua from taking office if they won the August 9 elections amounted to abetting illegalities as they sought to protect the principles, values, and objectives enshrined in Chapter Six of the 2010 constitution.
